"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" —Mary Oliver.
I am passionate about providing the best evidence-based treatments for trauma & PTSD as well as anxiety disorders.
I work from a cognitive-behavioral perspective and take an active approach to treating symptoms by focusing on the relationships between thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
I have spent the last 20 years training graduate students to become clinical psychologists with particular expertise in evidence-based treatments for trauma and anxiety disorders.
I offer individual therapy for older adolescents and adults.
I am a provider through Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and BlueChoice as well as Medicare.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO OFFER EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT?
EVIDENCE-BASED TREATMENT
When available, I prefer to use treatment approaches that have been show to be effective in high-quality research studies. This website by the Society of Clinical Psychology (Division 12 of the American Psychological Association) is an excellent resource. You can search by disorder or by treatment to see what evidence-based treatments exist. This page by the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies has a great explanation of evidence-based practice. Click the short video to learn more about evidence-based treatment.
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT)
CBT is a treatment approach that focuses on modifying thoughts, behaviors and emotions (or your relationship to your thoughts, behaviors and emotions). This tends to be an active treatment approach with homework and activities outside of session. Many of the current evidence -based treatments use a CBT approach. Click the video for a brief explanation of CBT. This page by the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies also has a detailed explanation of what CBT therapy is and what to expect from CBT therapy.
POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD) AND OTHER TRAUMA-RELATED DISORDERS
PTSD can develop in a substantial minority of people after exposure to a trauma. Click the three minute video from the National Center for PTSD to learn more about PTSD.
PROLONGED EXPOSURE THERAPY FOR PTSD
Prolonged exposure therapy (PE) is a gold-standard treatment for PTSD that I offer to clients. Please click the video and visit this page from the National Center for PTSD to learn more about PE
